Connection... the new type.
The evolved connection with self and universe is realized through an expanded range of perpetual personal comfort extending into what has become a society fraught with over stimulation, distraction, and fear.
The challenge is like taking the feeling of easiness associated with reading your favorite book in your room at home with your cat purring on your feet, but instead of being there, putting yourself in a frustrating or emotionally volatile situation and being equally comfortable. It should not be your intent to eliminate or eradicate the feeling of discomfort because it is inherent to the functionality of human beings, but rather to get into the discomfort, to surf it like a wave and use the kinetic energy of its motion to propel you in a beneficial direction.
What causes a person to feel discomfort? And, once the feeling of discomfort has become a point of mental concentration, what is the reaction? If you follow the path of an urge that leads to feelings of discomfort you may consider some of the following stimulations catalysts for that urge:
- Learning information or being around people who challenge your views
- Having your ego challenged
- Being faced with another's aggressive behavior
- Being faced with harm or danger
- Abrupt changes in life's directions
- Sensory overloads such as loud noises, bright lights, and/or fowl smells
- Pain
- The potential of feeling pain
- Emotional triggers sparking the remembrance of pain
- Paranoia, powerlessness, and helplessness
- And the list goes on...
Once the urge of discomfort has been stimulated it travels along a path. As the the initial feeling of discomfort builds and progresses along this path, it is translated into a feeling such as anxiety, tension, or fear. The physical force applied by these feelings becomes overwhelming or unbearable once it progresses to a state of powerlessness or helplessness. At this point, it feels like there are no options. The path to return to one's heart and base is often lost in the fog and the invasive feeling of discomfort creates such perceptual narrowing that you are literally displaced from present time by your own emotional reaction to the uncomfortable stimulation.
The path of the discomfort is a path out of the present time heart space, through the gut where the urge begins to grow, and upwards into the head where the emotion is concentrated upon and expanded through the circular and dramatic motion of the past, present, and future time frame all happening concurrently in the mind. This brings up an entirely separate issue concerning
heart space and head space. Once the cycle of head space is engaged it is not the primary focus to return to the heart, rather it is infinitely more important to relieve the discomfort. This NEED for relief is the mental impetus to forming addictions. Once an effective stimulation is discovered that brings immediate gratification it is associated not with the actual gratifying qualities of its usage, but with the relief of whatever extreme discomfort was previously being experienced.
