For me, poetry symbolizes a peak in my emotional reaction as it is through the spontaneous and unplanned emergence and release of past, present, and future experience that concentrates my creative force onto a written medium. It is a highly specific release capturing and preserving moments of peak emotional experience, reflection, and vision into stillness. Poetry differs from other types of emotional release because the urge to perform and burn poem into memory reflects a markedly possessive desire to "keep" or "adorn" specific moments of time for the sake of glorification, celebration, and exhibition. The mystery behind my urge to create poems is that I will never know which experience will give rise to the creation of poetry. I am subject to it. I get out of the way of it. I let it take me, even when it feels weak. Though poetry is a written art, a speaking art, for me it represents conversation and the openness to listen to the divine internal dialog.
